After several weeks of planning and anticipation, we have our trailer! It arrived this morning from Portland – our driver was named Vitaliy, who had driven down from Portland yesterday. Here he is pulling up with the trailer:
Archives for May 2014
We got notification that our trailer will be arriving on Friday! The driver will be contacting me tomorrow to set up a delivery window. It looks like this is for real, everyone!
We ordered a 20′ Tumbleweed Trailer with a full front porch for our Linden build. We’re hoping to move our door off-center, so I think there will need to be some modification of the all-thread tie-down locations. That’ll be the first project.
We’ll be sure to get photos of the delivery and where it ends up in our friend’s yard for the build. So I guess it’s time to start looking at rigid insulation… Here we go!
Hi everyone – I’ve added a subscription link to our site, so you can get email updates when new content is posted. That way you don’t have to hit F5 all day in anticipation. 😉 We’re at 4 subscribers already!
I’ve also adjusted the layout a bit, I wasn’t crazy about the static page before. A few other minor adjustments under the hood as well. Hope you like it, we’re going to continue refining it over the coming weeks/months!
Here is a “teaser” image that I’ve created in Sketchup (the renderer is Podium, in case anyone is interested). This shows the house in its current state. Framing is about 95% complete (some issues with the gable dormer still to resolve as well as some roof-pitch “glitches”), and placeholder sheathing is up. I’ll do some renders soon to show the interior, but as of right now – there is no interior, it’s all just framing. 🙂 We’re waiting on the trailer (any day now!) to finalize some dimensions for the build. Once that’s complete, it’s time to start figuring out the interior layout, which then dictates things like wiring, plumbing, etc.
As we’ve gotten further down the road of our tiny house adventure, Jeff and I have really loved and learned so much from all of the tiny house resources – blogs, articles, books, and generous, kind, adventurous souls that shared their experiences so that we too could see simpler living as a reality. When we decided that we wanted to document this process, a blog was the most natural way to bring it all together. So, now that we’re here: where to start?
Our interest initially started in the hunt for a more appropriate living space. We began looking into living situations a bit more tailored to us right around Christmas 2013. I have lived in Las Vegas since 2008 & as much as I’ve looked at buying a house, nothing ever seemed right. Jeff and I had been renting together and our current house fit our immediate needs (room for the dog, visitors, workable kitchen), but wasn’t ideal (the inefficient floor plan led to lots of wasted space we were paying to cool – especially in the hot Vegas summer.)
Welcome to Room to Spare! This is a place where we will blog our journey through building a tiny house – as well as exploring a minimalist lifestyle. Our goal is to complete the house somewhere around March of 2015 – look for our progress updates, thoughts, challenges, and inspirations along the way!
